Getting Started with Acorn Workshop

When I discovered Acorn a few months ago, I first wrote a blog post which details how to use it to specify, run, package, and distribute a microservice application. Then I started a series of posts which define the use of Acorn in a more progressive way. Creating a workshop was the next step to show Acorn’s capabilities in a more dynamic approach.

In this introductory Acorn workshop, you will deepen your understanding of this technology, understand its positioning in the Kubernetes ecosystem, and discover its key features through hands-on application.

This workshop will allow you to test and experience Acorn for yourself. You will work with a sample microservice application and gain experience building, running, packaging, and distributing it using Acorn in a multi-step process that will help you to (among other things):

  • write an Acornfile and learn how to specify and configure containers for a microservice application
  • run the application in development mode
  • package it for distribution
  • expose it with a custom domain over TLS

Simply visit the provided GitLab repository to access step-by-step instructions.

This workshop is designed for a hands-on and progressive learning experience. You can follow along at your own pace and provide feedback to help improve the content. If you’d like to learn more, join us for an upcoming live training class.
